113,000 jobs added in July, weaker than expected; jobless rate jumps
Employers added a smaller-than-expected 113,000 jobs in July and the unemployment rate jumped unexpectedly to 4.8%, Labor Department data showed Friday, igniting hopes for a pause in the Federal Reserve's interest-rate-raising campaign.

121,000 jobs added
Employers added a smaller-than-expected 121,000 workers to their payrolls last month, but the jobless rate stayed at a five-year low of 4.6% and average hourly earnings rose.

Worker confidence up as hiring rises
Employees are feeling more confident about the labor market and their own job security as hiring picks up in a number of industries.
